I stopped by the nature center to watch the bird feeders for a while this morning. Lots of birds but I didn't get any good shots of them. Only caught the leaves stuck in a thin scum of ice on the pond.

I made this wreath out of rags. I found the idea on Red Tag Art's blog here. The directions call for making the frame out of wire but I decided to make mine out of cardboard from my recycling bin.

The front is more puffy but I like the back better (pictured at the top).

The One Little Word project over at ShutterSisters suggests that we chose a word for the year. My word is "HELD". I am marveling in how God holds us, sustains us, protects and provides.

i am experimenting with photo blogging from the iPod touch. Not sure the camera is high enough quality and not sure what is the easiest way to upload and post. Emailing the photo to flickr and then sending it to blogger seems unnecessarily complicated. What would you say?

I got my camera back from the Canon shop. They said they tested it and found nothing wrong. But it still looses battery power after a very short time, so I am not happy. I just wasted time sending it in and now I have lost my mojo for taking pictures every day. It's too much bother I am afraid. I hate the time it takes me to upload and process them on my cranky old PC too. So I am going outside and lay in the hammock instead. I've got books to read!

Wicked Easy Quilts

These two quilts were made with the Wicked Easy quilt pattern found here. They really are quick and easy when done with a rotary cutter, strip piecing, and machine quilting. I made both of them in a four day weekend. I learned once again that it's worth the extra expense to buy cotton quilt batt, as it quilts so much easier and smoother on the machine. I like the way it feels when finished too.

I had to send my camera into Cannon for repair because it won't hold a battery charge. I miss it and I hope it comes back safe and sound. Has anyone else had trouble with the batteries on a Canon Powershot A590 IS?

Pink & green: African violets & a quilt

The green in this quilt photographed really, really bright. It's not one you would fall asleep too, but rather the kind of couch quilt you want to use when you are up late studying. I made it for one of the boys' daycare teachers. She is leaving the daycare to go back to nursing school. We will miss her & her smiles and hugs!

I made this baby quilt for the online auction (May 1- 29) for blogger Bridget Zinn. Bridget is a young adult librarian and author. She was diagnosed with cancer this past winter and is undergoing aggressive and expensive treatment. The auction is to help her and her newlywed husband with the cost of treatment. About seven years ago I took some small volunteer lilac sprouts from edge of my yard that had come under the fence from my neighbor's yard. I re-planted them on the sunny side of my house, envisioning a hedge that would burst into a purple cloud every spring. This year they are taller than my head and have many blooms opening. I LOVE lilacs. They are the scent of heaven. I wish I could send you some over the airwaves.

I am home, happy, and recovering from surgery # 2. Pathology reports came back completely negative. Doc said "no further treatments necessary".

I am CANCER FREE!!! Hallelujah Praise Jesus!!

This is the day the purple crocus burst out of the backyard in every nook and cranny. We are officially on spring watch. I saw the groundhog hanging out by the shed and the lilac buds are peeling back purple to green scales. Buddy is wearing roller skates and Punkin is digging in the sand box. I can't stop the happy.

Lenten Rose

We call this Lenten Rose, because it blooms in Lent. It's also named Helleborus. It blooms in my backyard every winter about this time. Last year it kept right on blooming half way through summer.

Scriptor Senex is on the other side of the pond and he has one blooming too. He calls it a Christmas Rose and I think his is a little bigger and brighter than mine.

Shutter Sisters has a 100 Step Challenge up. You are to get up and walk 100 steps and then take a picture. My 100 steps took me right to the back of the yard where this beauty lives. Nice, how that worked out.

One of my friends, who is an art teacher and has a kid's art studio in her house, invited my boys over for some art fun a couple weekends ago. They made these paper quilts which I just love. The sun is coming in through the lace curtains here, making shadow patterns over the colors.

OK, I just can't help myself. Every time I go in the grocery store I have to buy some flowers. Usually I ignore these out of season forced blooms because we will have them growing in the garden in about two months. It seems like cheating to have them now when it is still winter. But this year I feel like I need all the blooming, the fresh color, and aroma therapy I can get. I was noticing how the portrait seems to be smiling at the flowers.

In the Episcopal Church it is the feast day of Absolom Jones, (1746-1818) the first African American to be ordained. Along with Richard Allen he left the Episcopal church because of racism and segregation, form ing the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME).

I found this in my 6 year old's pocket while doing the laundry. He wants a DS lite so he made his own. It's about 2"x3". The brown paper next to it is the stylus. His creativity and playfulness restore my sense of joy. I can feel the tension draining, just looking at this.
